News - Formula BMW UK Rounds 5 and 6 Thruxton

The 3rd meeting of the Formula BMW UK season took place at Thruxton on the 5th and 6th of May. Thruxton is a circuit that Jordan enjoyed racing on last year in the Junior Ginetta with much success, winning twice. At this particular race meeting there was no test day on the Friday so Jordan had to come to the circuit on the Saturday ready to go straight out and qualify. Thruxton is a circuit that needs two people to work together to gain the ultimate lap time and without Jordan gaining any kind of tow around the Hampshire circuit he was unable to convert his promising test pace into a really good qualifying slot. Jordan qualified in 13th position for both races but was not completely disappointed. He said: “The car felt very raceable and I knew that if I could just keep with the front pack I would be able to race them.”

In the first race of the weekend Jordan had a very good start which left him with an opportunity to finish in the top ten for the first time this season. Unfortunately on the last lap after running in the top ten for the whole race he slipped down to 11th place after being overtaken by the other drivers on the final straight as they all used the tremendous slipstream to their advantage to simply drive around the outside of Jordan’s Team Loctite car. The second race at Thruxton followed a very similar pattern, after making a great start Jordan was in a very strong position to get at least 8th place. Unfortunately an oversight made by the team in fuel calculations left Jordan with fuel surge on the last 5 laps which dropped him from chasing the edge of the top six to 16th place. A very disappointing finish to what could have been the best weekend the young driver had up to that point. Jordan said on reflection to the weekend: “Its been a very big step forward this weekend and im pleased that the car now has the pace to get well into the top ten. It’s a shame about the second race but these things happen and I will not think about it just get on with it at the next round.”
