Former Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell indulged in his role as an ambassador to the drivers competing in the Formula BMW UK Championship by offering advice in the most appropriate surroundings possible during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Mansell was on hand to offer invaluable advice to the Formula BMW UK Drivers visiting the grand prix to soak up the sights and sounds. During the day the drivers competed in a series of small challenges around the BMW pit lane park including driving the race car simulator, reactions tests and even motor racing knowledge quizzes.
Jordan was invited to a behind the scenes look at BMW's popular F1 Team Pit Lane Park in part two of the Nigel Mansell master classes.
Indeed, Mansell was full of praise for the incentive BMW have offered to young drivers over the years, even going as far to suggest the ‘next Lewis Hamilton' could be amongst them.
Mansell commented: "It's been a very enjoyable day. First the thrill of being in an F1 car again, followed by the opportunity to catch up with the young drivers," the 1992 Formula 1 World Champion said. "BMW is committed to nurturing the next generation and the Pit Lane Park provides a perfect platform to talk through all that is Formula One as they progress their motor sport careers. Who knows, we may well have the next Lewis Hamilton amongst us!"
For Jordan whose visit to the British Grand Prix was his first ever to a Formula One race weekend said:
"It has been absolutely brilliant! This was my first ever visit to a F1 meeting and its incredible. The BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park is the perfect place to get behind the scenes of motorsport. Its such a good facility that allows the fans to get so close to a working F1 car. Having the Mansell master classes is a fantastic opportunity for me, I always try take all advice on board, but when it is coming from a former Formula One World Champion it is especially valuable. Hearing stories about the things he's been through in his career, makes it even more interesting and helpful and just adds to my hunger to do well in the sport. The challenges we did today were great aswell. I came out on top of the reaction test beating most of my BMW rivals by quite a margin! The whole weekend has been fantastic and I would like to thank BMW for the invitation!"
