The final official test of the Formula BMW season took place in blisteringly hot conditions at the Hungaroring last week. This only being Jordan’s third time out in a Formula BMW this year, was a good opportunity to prove himself as a contender in the series before the British Grand Prix round this weekend. Having never been to the circuit before, Jordan used the first day of the test to get his head around the long twisting circuit in Budapest. By the end of the first day he had finished up 13th and 11th in the two sessions of the 26 car field. This was pleasing but he still felt there was a lot more to come from the car and his driving.
For the second day Jordan was extremely focused and had a complete plan of where he wanted to be by the end of the day. Aiming for the top six Jordan knew that he had to step up to achieve this as the quality of the drivers in the series is very high indeed. By mid way through the final session of the day Jordan was really on form and put in the 4th fastest lap on old tyres. Teams and drivers then started to use their new tyres and Jordan dropped down the order. However this did not phase Jordan as he knew he still had a set of tyres to put on. Putting on his new tyres in last 15 minutes of the session, Jordan jumped back to 4th place then to be just piped by his team mate in the last moments of the session. Jordan ended in a very impressive 6th place and with the best first sector out of everyone, he felt he perhaps could have done a little more. He said: “It feels fantastic to be back where I should be, at the front. The team did a great job with the car and it really did feel good. When I put on the new tyres it was superb but with the conditions being so hot you only have 2 laps on the tyres and then they go off. I know now that I should have hit them a bit harder straight away and perhaps I could have made the top three. Nevertheless it’s a great way to prepare for Silverstone and I will now head to the British Grand Prix with a renewed confidence that I really can do the job in front of the home crowd and I am aiming for the podium!
